About the Author
Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services and Counseling at California State University at Fullerton. He received his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; and a National Certified Counselor. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17, Counseling Psychology; and Division 49, Group Psychotherapy); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Both Jerry and Marianne Corey received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and both also received the Eminent Career Award from ASGW in 2001. Dr. Corey was given the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from California State University at Fullerton in 1991. He regularly teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling and ethics in counseling. He is the author or coauthor of 15 textbooks in counseling currently in print, along with more than 60 journal articles and book chapters. In the past 40 years Jerry and Marianne Corey have conducted group counseling training workshops for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland.

Marianne Schneider Corey, a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, is a National Certified Counselor and a fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. She has been actively involved in providing training and supervision workshops in group process for human-services students and professionals. She also facilitates self-exploration groups for graduate students and continues to conduct training workshops in group counseling with her husband, Dr. Gerald Corey, in various countries. In 2001, the two received the Eminent Career Award for distinguished and major contributions to the field of group work by the Association for Specialists in Group Work.

This book is for a college psych. class of mine called "Mental Health". The book is a wealth of information about different stages in life and all main issues a person deals with over time. (i.e. Love, Relationships, General Wellness, etc) Outside of a classroom environment, the book would still work. It is a fairly easy read and if one was to work through all of the personal reflection questions in the book, they could probably get to really know them self better and solve a few problems along the way.

Interactive text book, haven't really seen that before. It seems really personal experience related. I enjoyed reading it, it wasn't "hard to follow" like some text books. used for interpersonal relationships undergrad class

This is a great book for someone trying to "find" themselves. It helps you reach inside of yourself to find the answers for questions that you have, but you don't want to ask anyone else because you're embarassed. It'll be a great book to read after five years and see how you have changed and grown. I'd suggest keeping a notebook to record your responses to the questions asked in the book and compare the answers after re-reading it a couple years later.

Nice coverage of a broad range of subjects as well. You feel like you're sitting down for a chat with two true masters in the field and the reading is easy, informative, and times, touching. I teach university classes in counseling psychology and will be adding this book to the list of resources that we will use to discuss clinical practice issues as well as the personal aspects of being a therapist.

Needed just a little bit more. 3 and 1/2 stars for me.

I've been waiting for this book after downloading the Ultimate Merger a couple of weeks ago. I have purchased other books by the author and I loved all of them. However, this book lacked something and I will explain later. I will admit I may be a little tough on the author because she typically writes books that are steamy but this one was missing the level of hotness I've come to expect.

Renaldo and Sabrina are married and separated because pictures emerged with Sabrina in their marital bed with another man. Renaldo loves Sabrina still and Sabrina loves him. They had a great business relationship and love life before he saw the pictures of Sabrina with another man. Renaldo is livid, as he should be and Sabrina cannot explain why she's in their marital bed with another man.

They fight like cats and dogs. Their fights are epic! He holds no punches and calls her what he believes her to be, a low down cheater and pretty much every chance he gets. However, he still needs her because of business and she needs him because of love. They are forced to stay together and their sexual relationship ignites again.
Ultimately the truth comes out about that night and their lives are forever changed.

Cons:

Here is my take, if you are going to establish a hot turmoil filled romance the love scene on a wedding night should be hot and described as such. Wedding nights and engagement nights are always laced with memorable sex. He's yours and you're his now, so it's hot but it was described in these words a 'lengthy session of love making' and that was it for the most memorable day in a married woman's life. I didn't feel that when it came to her, she was talking about keeping him and she'd just married him. What are you talking about? You have him in more ways than one, you're married, that's the ultimate 'have' there.

Bland sex scenes kill romance books. A couple of the romance scenes were lacking to me as compared to her other books. One was described as 'they made slow, unhurried love to each another.' That's just not hot and Latin sexy hot to me. Maybe I'm nit picking, buts its how I feel.

There were hot encounters but not enough for this to be apart of a hot Latin set of books. Her book 'Private Acts' was suited for that series, not this one, to me. The next morning after they got back together was hot. Also, the hottest romance/sex scene to me occurred when I was about the 80% into the book.

In closing, this book had potential to be hot because the story line was great, it had sexual tension, anger, and a hot alpha male but it just wasn't a book that was a page turner or one I was in a hurry to finish. On my days off I can read a great book with this length in a few hours, this one took me at least seven. Heck I cooked, cleaned, talk to the hubby, paid bills online and did everything else because it didn't hold my attention.

Not bad but the anticipation for this book was more exciting than the book.

Emotional and Spicy!

This was a great follow up to The Ultimate Merger (Hot Latin Men). Sabrina and Renaldo, whew they were on fire! After the last book I thought these two were impenetrable but boy was I mistaken. The fights between these two will have you shivering in your boots. They had such passion behind their words whether loving or hating one another, and sometimes it was almost scary. Renaldo was a mean SOB at times, but an awesome lover as well. The sex scenes between these two will certainly have you fanning yourself. I haven't read all the books in this series, but after reading these two it makes me want to go back and revisit the earlier books. Well done Delaney Diamond!

Very few authors know how to walk the fine line between eroticsm and pornography and authors like Delaney Diamond, Pepper Pace, Tiana Laveen, Sienna Minx, Latrivia Nelson, Theodora Taylor would never disapoint you because they are on top of their game and while reading them, you get a good sense of their effort and dedication to please us, so thank you Ms. Diamond.

An Enjoyable Story

I looked everywhere online for a detailed review on this book before buying it, with no luck. The book description of Jamie reaching out and telepathically connecting with the hero, Aerik, who isn't at first sure where she is got me interested enough to pay the $20 price.

Twenty-three year old Jamie McPherson lives in a small town by herself, having lost her family to different tragedies. One night she is feeling exceptionally grief-stricken and lonely. It is this time she inadvertently connects with Aerik Wolfe.

Aerik is a vampire who has lived for centuries. Jamie's mental touch from half a world away is unexpected, and her emotions call to him to find her. His kind are known as guardians of the night. They bring justice against those that kill or bring harm to innocent lives, making sure those enemies suffer equal or greater pain to that of their victims.

If you're looking for something action-packed, this might not be for you as most action happens much, much later in the book. The book focuses on the relationship between Jamie and Aerik with a plot on the unresolved case of the murder of Jamie's brother. In one or two instances you get a trip down memory lane to Aerik's earlier days before and after he turned vampire. Naturally in a vampire romance comes the issue of how a mortal and an undead will decide to continue their relationship. What will Jamie and Aerik do? I like that the heroine put a lot of thought into answering that question. Furthermore, I also appreciated that the source of their telepathic connection is explored rather than chalked up to an "unexplained act of Fate".

The book can at times be very descriptive, giving the reader a good idea of what's going on and sometimes making one anxious for a bit more dialogue. There are times that I thought Jamie could have figured out a few things a lot sooner than she did. She's not a heroine full of too much attitude, which can make a story frustrating to read. She's more open-minded to what Aerik is, and he's patient in developing his relationship with her. I admit I didn't feel the emotions in the characters like I have in Amanda Ashley's vampire books or Christine Feehan's Dark series. That's part of the reason I gave the book four stars instead of five.

As previous reviews have mentioned, there are a lot of grammar/spelling errors. Perhaps because I was expecting them it didn't bother me as much and I was able to return my focus to the story. Just be warned you'll find a lot of them.

All in all, the story is good. The title of the book has a special meaning in the story, and I liked the author's take on that. The plot is simple, but thankfully the author wraps up everything so you're not left hanging at the end. I appreciated the occasional humor that livened the story up a bit. I do wish the book wasn't so expensive, though. That's another reason for four stars. If you're in for a vampire romance fix and have run out of stuff to read, this is good for filling the time until you find something.

This first book of Jody Offen's Guardian of the Night series is wonderful and captivating. I really enjoyed the personalities of the main characters Areik and Jamie as well as Tray. (Tray in the second is absolutely wonderful a must read)She provided us with forbidden love, humor, danger and sensuality. Areik soon learns that he is bound to Jamie by blood...the very blood he provided her mother with while pregnant with Jamie so they both would survive a terrible car cash.

I loved this book as well as the second one, I found it to be exciting and entertaining. I am anxiously awaiting a third installment - hopefully with Dare and Tiannia's story! I would also like to know about Torin and Jenaver.

Thank you for such entertaining reading and keep them coming!

I thought this first time novel from Jody Offen was pretty good. It really did need to be edited for spelling, and that is why I have given it four stars instead of five.

The story was heartfelt and very believable! The characters were painted in vivid images in my mind, and the background was very well developed.

It is obvious that Ms. Offen put much thought into her version of vampire lore and it has an interesting spin all her own.

I truly enjoyed it and went right to the second book in the series (which was edited).

Looking forward to the third installment now and many more to come!
