This book is all right for introducing the basics of machine design. Though, I wish it would go a little more deeper and have more examples, problems/exercises, and solutions/answers to those problems. It does, however provide good sources for further readings.

* Chapter 5: The section "Horney's Explanation of Penis Envy" was revised to show Horney's early acceptance of the belief "Anatomy is Destiny" and her later rejection of that belief; suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 6: The biographical sketch of Erikson was revised to reflect current scholarship concerning the early significant events in his life; suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 7: Suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 8: The biographical information on Eysenck was updated; references in the section "Contemporary Developments: The Big Five" were updated; coverage of Eysenck's contributions to personality theory was expanded; suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 9: The section "Behaviorism" was replaced by "Skinner and Personality Theory."
* Chapter 10: The difference between the moderate form of behaviorism accepted by Dollard and Miller and the radical behaviorism accepted by Skinner was elaborated.
* Chapter 11: The fact that Bandura, Mischel, Allport, Cattell, and Eysenck all believed that person variables interact with situation variables to produce behavior was clarified.
* Chapter 12: A discussion of the relationship between sociobiology and evolutionary psychology was added; the section "Nature of Human Nature" was replaced by "Evolution, Personality, and Human Nature";, recent evidence supporting the claim that males and females use different criteria in mate selection was added; the section "Rape, Incest, and Suicide" was replaced by "Suicide and Other Forms of Self-Destructive Behavior"; the criticism that sociobiology is based on adaptationism was elaborated; the fact that sociobiology emphasizes what humans have in common and neglects individual differences was added to the criticisms section; suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 13: Evidence for the continuing popularity of Kelly's theory was added; suggestions for further reading were revised.
* Chapter 15: Coverage of Maslow's research on human sexuality was expanded; A section entitled "Self-Actualization and Gender" was added; Coverage of "positive psychology" was added to the evaluation section.
* Chapter 16: Information concerning "narrative therapy" was added to the section "Importance of Myth"; suggestions for further reading were revised.

The sixth edition of this text continues to reflect our contention that it is in an Introduction to Theories of Personality course that the student experiences the full richness of psychology. In such a course, the student experiences everything from psychology's most rigorous scientists to its most mystical nonscientific thinkers. It is in such a course that the student reviews answers to questions such as: What, if anything, do all human beings have in common? What accounts for individual differences among people? How are the mind and body related? How much of what we call personality is inherited and how much of it results from experience? and, How much of human behavior is determined and how much of it is a function of free will? In such a course, the major theories of human motivation are reviewed and the major schools, paradigms, or "isms" within psychology are sampled: for example, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanism, and existentialism. It is in such a course that the student is exposed to the history of psychology, from Freud to the modern theorists, including Erikson, Allport, Cattell, Eysenck, Skinner, Bandura, Mischel, Wilson, Kelly, Rogers, and May. It is also in such a course that students encounter information that helps them make sense out of their own lives and their relationships with other people. Finally, in such a course, the nature of psychopathology and its treatment are explored. What other psychology course covers as much territory? Our answer is none, and therefore it is our belief that if a student were to take only one psychology course beyond the introductory course, it should be an Introduction to Personality course.

Although this text covers topics already mentioned, its main purpose is to summarize the major theories of personality. The text is built around the belief that it is misleading to search for the correct theory of personality. Rather, it is assumed that the best understanding of personality is derived from a variety of viewpoints. Thus, theories representing the psychoanalytic, sociocultural, trait, learning, sociobiological, and existential-humanistic paradigms are offered as different-yet equally valid—ways of approaching the study of personality.

Unhappy about the shipping time

I ordered my book on the 14th, and I didn't get it until the 27th. I wasn't to happy about that. Usually when I order, I get it very quickly. I contacted the seller, and she stated she didn't even remember the book was for sale. She got the order for over a week, before she even sent it out. The book itself was in okay condition, that part was fine. But, again the shipping part of it, I wasn't happy about it.

A small book concerning Edward Levi's theory on legal reasoning. The size is perfectly compact, but don't let that fool you. Levi's reasoning takes serious concentration to follow. By no means an "introduction" to the law, you should have a fairly good grasp on the workings of the court system before trying to finish this. The excellent new foreword to this edition by Schauer helps give needed context. Recommended for anyone heading to law school or interested in legal theory.

Best novel from the point of view of a dog

Best novel from the point of view of a dog that I've ever read. Quinn creates a fascinating, believable mystery novel about a young girl and her grandmother struggling to keep their Cajun country bait shop from getting crushed by a ruthless competitor. The girl and her dog don't do anything that strains believability - the dog, especially, remains within dog-land with everything he actually does. Meanwhile, though, the dog remains a wonderfully witty narrator in spite of, or because of, all the things about human society that he doesn't understand. We enjoy the dog because of his voice, and come to love him for his fierce loyalty. I loved this book as an adult reader; the children I know who have read it love it, if anything, more.

Disappointing Prelude

“Woof” introduced Bowser and Birdie, two likable characters who shared an implausible adventure involving a stolen map. It seemed geared to upper elementary age children but even that level of reading sophistication might have found the story silly.

Unfortunately Birdie repeatedly disobeyed or ignored authorities to accomplish her goals. She also never took any responsibility for the illegality of her actions. All in all, Birdie was not a very positive portrayal of a “latch-key” kid.

Bowser’s role as the storyteller might be a fresh approach to young readers but seemed worn after reading Quinn’s Chet and Bernie stories. If “Woof” is a prelude to further adventures, I hope new, positive adult role models will emerge for Birdie.

You have to appreciate Spenser Quinn and his talent for penning a story.

I purchased this book to use as a learning tool for ESL students. It's nearly perfect, easy to read, well written and a fun little story. I have found that most people, (my students, at least), love dogs, so this was a no-brainer. Mr. Quinn has a real talent for thinking as a dog might, and this makes his stories fun to read. Woof, is perfect for children, and yet not an insult to adults, which makes it very useful for people trying to learn English. Speaking English and reading it are two entirely different things, and I am grateful for Bowser and Birdie and their talent for sleuthing. This is a fun story, easy to read and comprehend and just right for the job I intended it for.

Michael Morpurgo is the best! My entering-4th-grade student

As always, Michael Morpurgo is the best! My entering-4th-grade student, who is a reluctant reader, has loved reading the stories. They are just the right length for a student who struggles with reading. My only frustration is that the paperback is not available unless you want to pay $80 plus for a used one! I have it on Kindle, but I can't sent that home with my student so he can finish the stories that we won't have time to complete.

About the Author

Maia Chrystine Nartoomid has been an Elvis fan since 1956, and has been interacting with the Elvis community as a writer since 1970. Her contact with Wanda June Hill, author of "We Remember Elvis," and "Elvis Face to Face," began in 1977. Maia has also had direct contact with some other well-known people that were part of Elvis' life, such as Larry Geller and Charlie Hodge. She has also had direct contact with the popular Elvis authors, Jess Stearn and Brad Steiger.

As a modern day mystic Maia has repeatedly had soul level communications with Elvis when he was alive, and since his passing. She has the ability to read the ancient records of thought and history and bring forth mystical information on previous lifetimes for individuals. She has employed her innate mystical skills to examine the soul mission of Elvis through time.

Maia has a deep soul love for Elvis and feels that she too is from his real home, which he called the "Blue Star." She is deeply inspired to further Elvis' soul purpose and to help the world know more about who he really was behind the commercialized media image generally presented of him.

Maia currently resides in Hawaii and the Island of Kaua'i, not far from where Elvis filmed "Blue Hawaii." As author of this book I would also like to say that this is not a "channeling Elvis" book. Elvis' words are taken from transcribed phone conversations (taped with his permission) he had with friends, letters in his handwriting and pages from books he read with his writing in the margins. Many reproductions of his letters, book pages, etc are in BLUE STAR LOVE.

Upon receiving this book I realized

quickly that I was holding a very unique gift in my hands. Maia has spent 28 years

researching the contents of this book. Through its pages we get to know Elvis in a very

expanded way ~ the true Being behind the public persona. We discover that Elvis was

very spiritually aware, remembered his Star Home, studied metaphysics with a passion

and even taught important metaphysical concepts to any of his fans who were willing

to listen. This is an unusual and extrordinary read, full of activations and remembrances.

Indeed in the times that are upon us, this book is a comfort to all Star Seeds.

Apart from experiencing Elvis and his life in a new and truly inspiring way,

through the pages of this book we also get to experience the extraordinary Being who

wrote the book. Maia has been an inspiration in my life for many years. I am always

amazed at her capacity to transcend and go to the high records, where she can bring thru

detailed and complicated information for us all. Her book holds spirtual teachings and

awareness that we all so need during these days on Earth. As we are coming back into the

remembrance of our Great Being we have the privilege of knowing certain Star Beings

along the way, who can help us to remember why we are here and where we came from.

I was in awe after reading this book and full of admiration for the author. She accomplished something precious and unforgettable here. The book is very professionally done, informative and spiritually uplifting, and, at the same, warm and inviting. Congratulations Maia. It's not often that a book grabs your full attention day and night, but this book did. For the last month I've read dozens of pages each night before bed and very often had to fight the tears because of the emotions it stirred. I was filled with sympathy and sadness over the hardship Elvis had to go through in his life. It is difficult to go against the stream and the spiritual path is often a lonesome one . At the same time, the world owned him and he gave all he had back to us. How he endured and forgave those who hurt him is something for us all to learn from. I was not an Elvis fan, didn't buy his records and paid little attention to any gossip, but always admired his strong and beautiful voice. I wish I had known more about the man behind the voice, that beautiful tender soul that came from afar, who only wanted the best for everyone. I highly recommend reading this book, we will all be richer and better for it.

Great Textbook

I can't really complain to much about this book. Very informative however I felt the chapters were kind of all over the place. For example when talking about the colonies one mintue you could be talking about the middle colonies and then something different and come back to more information about the middle colonies. Very easy to understand the text however.

Only for beginners

If you are a musician and you know much of anything about music licensing--if you belong to BMI or other PRO and know what they do; if you know what kind of license you need to record a cover song and put it on a CD--then this book is way too basic for you. I'm quite disappointed because the book is padded with forms that are readily available on line, and with Q&As of the usual type you hear at music conferences (Lots of gossip and name-dropping), but it really lacks the nuts-and-bolts of exactly how to get your music placed and sold.
