About the Author
Abe sensei won 8 consecutive times at the All Japan Teacher competition. Abe sensei has been active as the vice referee for the all Japan High School Karatedo for Tokyo City. Through interactions with all the high school karate instructors across Japan, he researched traditional kata and martial art styles. His profound knowledge of karate can be said to have stemmed from here.

This is a karate masterpiece!

This book can be a masterpiece of karate martial art.
There are three major differences this book from any other karate materials I have ever read.
First of all, this book is written in an English speaker friendly manner. If you open the pages, you will easily see that each Japanese terminology is written with plain English pronunciations. For example, page 9, the term "Age-uke" is pronounced as "ah"-gay"-"oo"- "kay." This pronunciation teaches English speaker how to say each Japanese terms accurately.
Secondly, a great numbers of pictures are used to demonstrate each karate technique in this book. They enable to clarify the detail of karate movement and technique with step-by-step method. I realized that some techniques are illustrated sequential manner; therefore, even senior citizen can learn each technique with their own comfortable learning pace.
Thirdly, this book is easy-to-follow for anyone: men, women, and children...whoever interested in learning or improving karate martial art abilities. This book teaches and illustrates "Traditional Japanese Karate," a young female introduces karate techniques. In spite of her youth and beauty, we can see her muscle strength, powerful movement, and steady posture. We can receive an impactive message from the author as "karate is for everyone" as his purpose of publishing this book.
Personally, I love reading this book because this book helps my 10 years old son who started karate a few years ago. It dramatically increased his karate vocabulary and he amazed the great number of defense and offense methods described in this book. Now he can do preview/review each technique before/after his karate lessons. I believe this book is also helpful for his belt test because it gains him the number of techniques, especially for ippon-kumite testing.
Going beyond age, gender, language, and nationality, anyone can learn karate for both mental and physical strength with this book. I highly recommend "Traditional Japanese Karate"! The book is easy to understand and follow and will improve your Karate abilities in a short time.

A pivotal Karate Keepsake!

Learn Karate the Japanese way with this easy-to understand narrative with stellar illustrations! You can see and read what you need to do to develop your martial art skills at any level! As a mom of two GREEN belts from Sinsei Abe's dojo, I can attest to his thorough knowledge in the arena of Karate! You won't be disappointed with this book, it's the first I have seen with the English/Japanese terminology!

unfriendly formatting

I am disappointed with the formatting of this e-book. In digital view, the minimum useable screen will be your desktop. If you really WANT to take the book with you on your Kindle or i-pod, maybe this is a barely viewable/viable option.
My opinion: Buy the book and do not touch the digital version until this gets a really good overhaul.
